Writing

Way back in the pre-MySpace days, I wrote in a blog every day, usually a few times a day. I had a pretty decent following. Something about the adventures of a freshly divorced twenty-something getting back into the dating world interested people. After a few years, I just kind of lost interest in it, and eventually deleted it.

I continued writing in my own private journal, although not as often as I'd like. I also write a lot of short stories. I have a folder full of them, and I'm currently bouncing back and forth between two stories. One is hovering around 90k words, the other is in the 30k area. No one has read any of my stories since I was in college. One of these, though, I may actually consider sending to a few publishers, or maybe self-publishing. A friend of mine is an editor, and runs her own indie comic book publishing company, and has offered to look it over for me. Plenty of writers get started in their fifties, so who knows what could happen there.

I've also been kicking around doing TTRPG related things online, which might bring in a bit of extra cash. I've been thinking about it all for years though, and my big problem there is time. Between my day job and all the responsibilities I have at home, I don't get a lot of time for hobbies.

I turned fifty a few months ago. As with thirty and forty, I don't feel any different, and it's not bothering me in the least. The only time I think about it is when some age related question comes up at the doctor's office, or AARP sends unsolicited stuff in the mail. The rest of the time, I keep having to remind myself that I'm not twenty-seven anymore, and while I'm in better than average shape for my age, there is just certain shit that my body doesn't want to do anymore. I don't feel like any of that is slowing me down though.

I just wish I had more time...
